FAQ

Practical guidance for new and curious PEV riders, from first rides and safety gear to local rules and community support.

Getting Started

A personal electric vehicle (PEV) is a small electric-powered ride — such as an electric unicycle, Onewheel, e-skateboard, or e-scooter. Many are self-balancing: the rider controls speed by leaning and steers by shifting their weight.

For our beginner Learn-to-Ride clinics, we provide loaner wheels and safety gear. For group rides and other events, you will typically need your own PEV.

Absolutely! Our Learn-to-Ride clinics are designed specifically for first-time riders. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the basics in a safe, controlled environment.

We strongly recommend a helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads at a minimum. As you progress to higher speeds or more difficult terrain, additional protective gear is advised.

Utah currently regulates similar self-balancing devices under electric personal assistive mobility device rules. Riders generally follow bicycle-style rules and must ride safely around pedestrians. See Utah Code Section 41-6a-1121 for more details.
